This article provides a variety of ways of motivating people working in teams and the ways in which an employer can ensure that employees remain working in teams rather than individually. With my topic being how to motivate individuals to work in teams, I found this article useful as it employs the theory of motivation in understanding the need of teamwork. The research quotes other studies and their achievements. Through this, I can easily identify the gaps that exist in research and use existing knowledge in bridging them.

I began my research by stating the names of all peer reviewed journal articles because those ones normally provide sound evidence. I proceeded by looking at some general articles on the topic so as to get an overview of whatever has already been handled. I found most of my articles on Pubmed because obtaining most research articles through the same requires zero or very little money. In my search button, I used the key words ‘individual, motivation to form teams’. I got 276 results but got rid of most of the articles because they were either too old or contained information that was irrelevant to my study. I decided to use this article because it contained information that was undistinguishable from my objectives.

In his article “How to motivate people working in teams”, Jiang talks about the benefits of teams and how to motivate people so that they start and keep working in teams. The author hypothesizes that it is important to motivate people to work in teams and the successful completion of this endeavor requires the consideration of situational factors. To this end, the researcher suggests the use of a pilot study that employs a variety of data collection tools including questionnaires and surveys. Throughout the study, the researcher makes use of data from peer reviewed journals and published text books. The conclusion is that there are many ways of motivating individuals to work in teams. The identification of the most suitable method would suffice after the consideration of situational factors.

The strength of the article by Jiang emanates from the fact that the researcher has provided an extensive literature review and then confirmed his research with relevant theories. The researcher does not just handle the methods of motivation but helps leaders understand their role in motivating teams. This approach is immensely important for any leader trying to comprehend how to form an effective team. The article contains further information on the numerous types of teams and their constituents. Through this approach, it becomes easy for anyone to form an effective team.

Considering that teamwork is one of the ingredients of success in the workplace, Jiang provides the various approaches of employees towards teams. Using this approach, any leader is in a position to anticipate the reactions of employees towards the work that involves teamwork (Hackman, 2009). For this research, this information is indispensable as it shows that not all types of teams work for all individuals. The idea that situational factors play a significant role in the motivation of individuals in joining and working in teams is intriguing and interesting. This research article does not just handle the motivation of teams but contains invaluable information that can be employed in improving the types of groups created.
